Description
Site-directed mutagenesis is a process of creating specific alterations in a gene. This technique has been used to study the relationship of protein structure and its function. Using site-directed mutagenesis, a gene can be modified by base substitution, sequence deletion and insertion. Site-directed mutagenesis is also very useful for modifying a DNA construct, such as alteration of a restriction site in a vector, insertion or deletion of vector elements, tag addition, tag removal and promoter insertion and exchange.
