DescriptionTo study the role that PP-IPs play in mammalian phosphate homeostasis researchers generated cells devoid of this small molecule. CRISPR was used to create a cell line without PP-IPs. In IP6K2-/- cells IP7 was significantly reduced compared with WT (wildtype) but was still present. Researchers chose human colon carcinoma cell line HCT116 as it is near-diploid and expresses IP6K1 and IP6K2 only and has easily detectable levels of IP7 and IP8.
