Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Bioinformatician

Our highly regarded RNA-Seq, Whole Genome Sequencing, Metagenome sequencing, and many other custom NGS services are widely used by scientists around the world. The successful candidate will be part of the NGS team to provide our customers with a complete line of NGS and bioinformatics related services. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Perform data analysis from DNA and RNA sequencing on the Illumina sequencing platform using existing pipelines for RNA-seq, WGS, WES, metagenome, and other tools. Types of analysis can include but not limited to gene expression analysis, variation calling, de novo assembly, functional annotation, and OTU classification.
• Maintain and optimize existing analysis workflow and update with new tools if necessary.
• Develop and optimize new bioinformatics scripts, workflows and services in accordance to abm’s sequencing services and R&D efforts.
• Assist technical support and BD staff for NGS project consultation.
• Generate data analysis reports for clients.
• Maintain and organize all production and programming records/documents carefully and neatly in detail.
• Assist the senior scientists with on-going R&D projects and bioinformatics needs.
Qualifications : shortlisted candidates will have the following experience:
• A minimum of BSc in Computer Science/Biology/Bioinformatics or related discipline.
• Experience coding in Perl, Python, Shell, or other scripting language. Skills in other programming languages would be an asset.
• Working knowledge of basic bioinformatics tools such as Blast, short read aligners, and variation calling tools.
• Prior research experience or work experience with NGS applications would be an asset.
• Knowledge of NGS library preparation is not required, but would be an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment.
• Preference is given to Canadian citizens or permanent residences.

Molecular Biology Research Technician

We are looking for a talented and experienced Molecular Biology Research Technician that has a solid background in vector design, subcloning, PCR amplification and qPCR techniques. The ideal candidate would be familiar with various expression systems including bacterial and mammalian cells. Fundamental scientific strengths in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology are required for this position. The successful candidate will also play a key role in the innovation and development of commercial kits for life science research applications. The position will also entail inventory and materials management, as well as mentorship of undergraduate students.

To be successful in this role, the candidate will have the following qualifications:
• Candidate must possess a MSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or closely related field OR a BSc with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Candidates with industrial experience are preferred
• Experience with RNA isolation and manipulation considered an asset
• Experience with protocol development and inventory management considered an asset
• Experience with molecular biology techniques such as DNA cloning, PCR and qPCR systems and applications
• Ability to participate within a multifunctional team and assist other departments
